Features that Make Your Kitchen More Luxurious

Malvern - Our Work

There are certain features that can add to the appeal and design aesthetic of your kitchen, giving it a more luxurious feel. We may all be able to look at a given kitchen and say that it feels like a luxury kitchen, but we want to take a closer look at the individual components that contribute to that look.

There are certain design choices that can take an average-looking kitchen and transform it into something sensational, and that’s what we want to focus on here.

Consider Your Colour Palette

One of the keys to having luxurious kitchen is to ensure that all the colours included in that room work together well. Complementary painting doesn’t add a lot of additional cost of your kitchen remodelling project, and it can make all the difference in how the finished product looks. Your kitchen doesn’t have to be painted a uniform colour. Two different colours- one for the upper areas and one for the lower areas- can really make your kitchen pop. You can use colour highlights to create a bold statement too, and the cost is surprisingly cheap.

You may not be too sure about what colours to use and how they will all work together, so talk to your designer before you move ahead with a new colour scheme.

Showcase Your Tap

If you choose a beautiful tap for your kitchen, you can really make it a focal point for the entire room. You don’t have to spend a lot to get a great-looking tap, and if you do some shopping around, you will see that there are some great choices available. Just be sure that you pick one that goes with the thickness of your benchtop, as some of the inexpensive taps are made for thinner benchtops.

Any heavy taps need to be mounted in the benchtop instead of the sink. That means that you will need to buy a sink that does not include a mounting area for the tap. If you buy a heavy tap and install it onto a stainless-steel sink that’s too thick, it will flex the sink and create a rather cheap-looking end result.

You maybe able to buy a bracket for the sink that lets you mount in a sink not designed for mounting. This is something you may have to get for natural stone benchtops anyway, in some cases. You also need to ensure that your benchtop is deep enough to accommodate the sink and tapware.

Floating Shelves

When you use open or floating shelves, you instantly lift your kitchen’s style. This is a trendy look that gets rid of clutter on the benchtop and lets you cut loose with some unique style of your own.

This also lets you update the kitchen from time to time to stay with the current trends, and it is often far less expensive than making an upgrade to your cabinets with each style change that comes along.

Glass Doors

If you would rather not do much dusting, then glass doors are a good option for display shelves. They don’t cost a lot more than other options, and they help you keep up with trends the same way that open shelving does.

Use the Space You Have

If you have some blank walls in your kitchen, it can make that room look kind of sparse and unappealing. Consider how you want to use the wall space in your kitchen. You can add artwork to some of them, incorporate feature tiling, add floating shelves or do other small but significant things to punch up the look of the kitchen and fill the space.

Cabinets for Your Appliances

Not all of your appliances need to sit out on the benchtop all the time. You can store some of them in cabinets out of sight.

Buy Some New Appliances

You will have to spend some money on this one, but it can save money for you over time. Large appliances like your cooktop, dishwasher and oven can need replacing if they are moved around a lot.

If you are building a new kitchen and using your old appliances, then you can end up with some inoperative appliances in short order. You never know when they are going to give out on you, and it can be cheaper to just get new ones ahead of the remodel. That way, you have time to shop around and find the best prices, as opposed to just letting them fail and trying to replace them quickly without taking the time to look at your options and get the best deal. This also helps you avoid having to modify parts of the kitchen to accommodate the new appliances when they are installed.

Integrated appliances are a great way to modernize and improve your kitchen. They fit right in and are barely noticeable, adding a level of appeal to your kitchen it wouldn’t normally have.

Make Your Cabinets Taller

If you have higher cabinets, you generally have a more luxurious look. Of course, if you have a high-ceilinged kitchen, you don’t want your cabinets to extend all the way up. Just make them go as high as you are comfortable with and enjoy the added style benefits that change brings. These kinds of cabinets can draw eyes upward and give the room a greater sense of space. You can make the cabinets look more built in by setting up a bulkhead over the cabinets.

Decorative Details

Your attention will be drawn naturally to the benchtop, doors and splashbacks, so you can focus your attention and your money there, adding in details that give the kitchen a more elaborate and luxurious feel.

Benchtops don’t all have to look premium, and you can opt for upgrading just the island benchtop to save some money.

Splashbacks can vary extensively in cost, and you can get some great looking ones with some inexpensive materials, if they are incorporated into your kitchen well.

You can give your kitchen a whole new aesthetic with new handles, and this allows you to keep up with trends as well.

The Lighting

Most people forget about the lighting in their kitchen until the room is already built. You have so many things to consider as you are putting your kitten together this becomes something that is easy to overlook. The lighting you use can drastically alter not only the look and mood of the kitchen, but also its functionality and safety. Task lighting allows you to see what you are working on better and feature lighting can improve your kitchen’s style and provide light to places that don’t normally receive it. Of course, all this takes more money, but the end result can definitely be worth it.

Don’t Forget Flooring

To make the kitchen feel like a part of your home, you need to make sure the flooring in there fits with the flooring in adjacent rooms. You can also make the kitchen stand out by giving it a unique floor that captures modern trends and suits the overall design aesthetic you want to have for this room.
